You've Been Carrying This Long Enough
Something happened to you, whether it was years ago or not so long ago. And no matter how hard you've tried to move on, it keeps coming back. You find yourself reacting in ways you can't fully explain. You feel on edge for no clear reason. You pull away from people you care about. You wonder why you can't just let it go.
You're not broken. Your mind is doing exactly what it was designed to do — protect you. But at some point, that protection stops serving you and starts getting in the way of the life you actually want.
Trauma therapy at Lionheart Counseling is here to help you change that.
What Trauma Really Looks Like
Trauma doesn't always look like a dramatic crisis. Sometimes it looks like:
Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected from yourself
Replaying painful memories even when you don't want to
Struggling to trust people, even the ones who've never hurt you
Constantly bracing for something to go wrong
Believing deep down that you're not good enough, safe enough, or loveable enough
Self-sabotaging relationships, careers, or goals without fully understanding why
These aren't character flaws. They are signs that something happened to you that your nervous system never fully processed. You deserve real support to work through it.
How Trauma Therapy Works
At Lionheart Counseling, trauma therapy is built around two of the most evidence-based approaches available: EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
EMDR Therapy for Trauma
EMDR is one of the most well-researched trauma treatments in the world. It works by helping your brain reprocess painful memories so they lose their emotional charge. You'll still remember what happened, but it won't feel like it's happening right now. Many people are surprised by how much lighter they feel after EMDR, even after years of carrying something heavy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Trauma
CBT helps you identify the thought patterns and beliefs that trauma has created — things like "I'm not safe," "I'm a burden," or "I'll never be okay." Together, we work to challenge those beliefs and replace them with something truer and more helpful. It’s about finding the deep buried negative, self-sabotaging beliefs about yourself and working to replace them with truer, healthier, and productive beliefs about yourself instead.
What Sessions Actually Feel Like
Trauma therapy at Lionheart Counseling is never rushed. We go at your pace. You're never pushed to share more than you're ready to share. The goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely safe — because healing only happens when you feel safe enough to let it. This looks and feels like having meaningful conversations at times with deeper goals and focus, and at other times it looks like having light-hearted jokes, sitting in silence to process what was just said or heard, venting out emotions and thoughts you’ve held onto all week (or years), and being in a place where you can genuinely feel safe, heard, and respected.
Who This Is For
Trauma therapy at Lionheart Counseling is a great fit for adults who:
Have experienced childhood trauma, abuse, neglect, or difficult family dynamics
Are living with PTSD from any kind of traumatic event
Feel stuck in patterns of self-sabotage or self-destruction they can't break
Carry deep negative beliefs about themselves that they can't seem to shake
Have tried to "get over it" on their own and it hasn't worked
Are ready to actually heal, not just cope
You Don't Have to Keep Living Like This
There's a version of your life where the past doesn't run the show. Where you can be in a relationship without waiting for it to fall apart. Where you can take a chance on yourself without talking yourself out of it. Where you wake up and feel okay.
That's not wishful thinking. It's what trauma therapy is designed to help you find.
