You've Been Carrying This Long Enough.
Therapy for adults who are tired of getting in their own way — and ready to finally change it.
Something Keeps Getting in the Way
You're not falling apart. You're functioning — maybe even well by most measures.
But there's something underneath the surface that you can't quite shake. A pattern that keeps showing up. A version of yourself you keep almost reaching and then pulling back from, right when things start to get good. A voice that tells you you're not enough, that you'll fail, that you don't really deserve the things you want.
You've tried to outthink it. You've made the plans, had the realizations, committed to the change. And somehow, you find yourself back in the same place — tired, frustrated, and quietly wondering if this is just who you are.
It isn't.
What you're carrying has a root. And roots can be healed.
What's Actually Going On
The patterns keeping you stuck aren't random. They were built by experiences you had, things that happened to you, ways you learned to survive that stopped serving you a long time ago.
Self-sabotage isn't weakness. It's a nervous system that learned the wrong lessons and never got the chance to unlearn them.
The negative voice that tells you you're not enough, that you'll fail, that you don't deserve the things you want — that voice came from somewhere. And it can be quieted. Challenged. Replaced with something that's actually true.
That's the work. And it's some of the most powerful work a person can do.
Who This Is For
This Is For You If...
You're an adult and tired of watching yourself repeat the same patterns
You want a therapist who will actually push you — not just listen and nod
You're done with surface-level coping strategies and ready to get to the root
You've been carrying something from your past that keeps showing up in your present
You want to be challenged, held accountable, and genuinely supported all at once
You believe you're capable of more — and you're ready to prove it
You believe change is possible, even if it doesn't quite feel that way yet
You're ready to do real work, in a space that feels genuinely safe to do it
You don't have to have it all figured out before you reach out. You just have to be willing to take the first step.
What It Means to Have a Lionheart
The lion has always been a symbol of one thing: courage.
Not the absence of fear. Not the guarantee of an easy path. Courage — the willingness to face what's hard, to walk into the difficult places, to keep going even when part of you wants to turn back.
That's what it takes to do this work.
It takes courage to admit that something isn't working. It takes courage to stop blaming circumstance and start looking inward. It takes courage to sit across from someone and tell the truth about who you are and what you've been through. It takes courage to believe — even when the evidence in your own life has told you otherwise — that you are capable of something different.
That courage already exists in you. You wouldn't be here if it didn't.
Lionheart Counseling exists for the people who are ready to use it.
How We Work Together
Therapy at Lionheart Counseling is a real relationship — honest, collaborative, and built around you genuinely changing, not just feeling better for an hour a week.
That means you'll be heard, deeply and without judgment. And it also means I'll walk alongside you with honesty — noticing patterns, offering perspective you might not be able to see from inside them, and gently challenging you when I think you're selling yourself short. Not because I'm hard on you, but because I believe in what's possible for you.
The approaches we use are evidence-based and chosen for depth:
EMDR Therapy — processes the traumatic memories and unresolved experiences quietly running your present-day patterns, so they lose their grip and stop showing up uninvited.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) — helps you understand the different "parts" of yourself driving the self-sabotage — the inner critic, the protector, the part that keeps repeating the same patterns — so they can heal and work with you instead of against you.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — identifies and gently rewires the thought patterns and core beliefs keeping you stuck, replacing what's false with something truer and more useful.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) — keeps the work moving forward with concrete goals, real momentum, and a clear picture of the life you're building toward.
This work takes honesty and effort. It also takes time and grace — for yourself, and for the process.
What Changes
The negative beliefs you've been carrying — about who you are, what you deserve, what you're capable of — begin to lose their grip. Not because you ignore them, but because you finally understand where they came from and you choose something different.
You start showing up differently. In your relationships. In your work. In how you talk to yourself when no one else is listening.
Just because you feel broken doesn't mean you have to stay broken. That brokenness — the very thing that's felt like your greatest liability — can become the foundation of something genuinely beautiful. A story you actually want to be living. A version of yourself you actually recognize.
That's what healing looks like. And it's available to you.
Who You'll Be Working With
I'm Dax Johnson, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) based in Murray, Utah.
I work with adults who are ready to do something real about what's been holding them back. People who want a therapist who will be genuinely present with them — someone who listens without judgment, engages with honesty, and walks alongside them through the hard work of becoming who they're capable of being.
My approach is warm and direct in equal measure. I lead with grace. And when it's helpful, I'll offer an honest perspective or a gentle challenge — always from a place of genuine belief in you and what's possible for you.
I specialize in trauma, self-sabotage, anxiety, depression, and the deep negative core beliefs that keep people stuck in patterns they desperately want to break free from.

areas of focus
Trauma & PTSD:
Painful experiences from the past have a way of following us into the present. They show up as flashbacks, emotional numbness, hypervigilance, or feeling permanently stuck in survival mode. As a trauma therapist serving Murray and Salt Lake City, UT, I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and other evidence-based approaches to help adults process and heal from trauma so it no longer controls their daily life.
Anxiety & Chronic Stress:
Anxiety can feel like your mind never gets a break: the constant worry, racing thoughts, and a body that's always braced for the next thing to go wrong. I work with adults in the Salt Lake area who are ready to break the cycle of chronic stress and anxiety, building practical tools to quiet the noise and reclaim a sense of calm and control.
Depression & Hopelessness:
Depression isn't just feeling sad; it's the exhaustion, the disconnection, the voice that tells you nothing will ever get better. I help adults in Murray, Salt Lake, and throughout Utah work through depression by identifying and dismantling the beliefs and patterns keeping them stuck and replacing them with a renewed sense of purpose and hope.
Negative Self-Beliefs & Self-Worth:
The way we see ourselves shapes everything from our relationships, our decisions, to the opportunities we allow ourselves to pursue. I specialize in helping adults identify the harmful core beliefs driving self-doubt and self-sabotage, and work to replace them with healthier, more accurate beliefs that support the life they actually want.
Grief & Loss:
Grief doesn't follow a schedule, and it doesn't always look the way people expect. Whether you've lost a loved one, a relationship, a job, or a version of your life you planned on, grief deserves to be processed — not pushed down. I provide a compassionate, judgment-free space for adults navigating loss at any stage of the grieving process.
Life Transitions & Personal Growth:
Major life changes, even positive ones, can leave us feeling unmoored, uncertain, or stuck between who we were and who we're becoming. Whether you're navigating a career change, a relationship shift, or simply a season of reinvention, therapy can help you move through transitions with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Goal-Setting & Accountability:
Knowing what you want to change and actually changing it are two very different things. I help adults turn vague hopes into clear, actionable goals and provide the structure and accountability needed to follow through — because real growth requires more than good intentions.
Every person's story is unique. Therapy at Lionheart Counseling LLC is tailored to your specific needs, struggles, and goals
