What Depression Really Looks Like

‍ ‍

Depression doesn't always look like crying all the time. For many adults in the Salt Lake Valley it's much quieter than that — a persistent flatness, a loss of motivation, a disconnection from things that used to matter. It might look like:

‍ ‍

  • Going through the motions at work, at home, and in relationships without really being present

  • A heaviness that sleep, distraction, and pushing through haven't been able to lift

  • Negative beliefs about yourself that feel completely true — "I'm a failure," "I don't deserve better," "nothing will ever change"

  • Irritability or emotional numbness rather than visible sadness

  • Persistent depressive disorder — a lower-level depression that has lasted so long it feels like just who you are

  • Wondering what the point is, without necessarily being in crisis

‍ ‍

Depression lies to you. And the right therapeutic support can help you find your way back to yourself.

‍ ‍

Specialized Depression Treatment

‍ ‍

At Lionheart Counseling, depression therapy is built around getting to the root — not just managing symptoms. Using CBT, EMDR, IFS, and Solution-Focused Therapy together, we address depression at the level of thought patterns, past experiences, and the internal beliefs driving the cycle.

‍ ‍

IFS therapy is particularly powerful for depression rooted in shame or worthlessness — it helps heal the parts of you that carry those beliefs rather than just challenging them intellectually. EMDR processes the painful experiences that shaped how you see yourself. CBT rewires the thought patterns depression uses to keep you stuck. Solution-Focused Therapy keeps forward momentum alive throughout the work.

‍ ‍

Serving the Entire Salt Lake Valley

‍ ‍

In-person depression therapy is available Tuesday through Friday at our Murray, Utah office. Telehealth depression therapy is available to adults throughout Utah. A free 15-minute consultation is available to get started.

  • "Do yourself a favor and get to know this guy! I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) of 30 years. I’ve known a lot of therapists over the years, I would, and would not, recommend. I am SUPER picky about who I refer people to. Dax is one I highly recommend without reservation. He’s bright, soulful, grounded, compassionate, and passionate! He truly has a lion’s heart. And he has a great story that led him to where he is. He’s a good man doing good work in the world. He’ll take good care of you"

  • "I've counseled with Dax about several different interpersonal issues. He is very objective and always makes sure to think before he speaks. I would recommend Dax if you need someone who really listens to understand and isn't going to butt in or talk about himself. He has a genuine heart for people and wants to them succeed. If you're ready to dig in and move forward in your life and relationships, Dax is definitely someone you want on your team."
